2011 is going to begin with a bang here at Pagatim.fm! We are launching a new show, ZenParenting. The hosts of the show are Todd and Cathy Adams out of Chicago. They joined Todd to talk about their background, their road to ZenParenting and how handling three girls under the age of 7 is their formula for success.
Actually, they will share their real recipe on their first show, January 4th, 4:30pm CST (2:30pm PST). As a parent coach, Cathy has talked with thousands of parents about the ups and downs. She even put together many of her own struggles and learned lessons along the way into a book, The Self Aware Parent. Both Laura and Todd recommend it. It’s an easy and beneficial read.

Don Moore is the past President of the Board of Directors for NAMI in Multnomah County, Oregon. He is currently the co-chair of the Advocacy committee and today he was a guest with Laura and Todd. The focus was Mental Illness. Don and his wife have been through the ups and downs with their own daughter. Laura just went through another chapter this past weekend with her sister.
This episode isn’t about fixing the problem, it was about showing parents and family members there are resources that will help all of us who don’t have the mental Illness. It can take a toll and to prevent that there are ways. Don shared a class that he and his wife took that completely transformed their approach and helped the entire family.

Does the search for the perfect Christmas Tree cause a little bit of bitter in fighting in your family. If not, you suck. If it does, welcome to the party. Actually in ours, it doesn’t cause fighting, it causes a long drive and usually winds up with a fairly Charlie Brown looking tree.
Laura gets huge kuddos this year for finding Portland’s/Beaverton’s (because I can’t tell which town it is in and I didn’t ask) best Christmas Tree lot. This is not your typical corner lot. It was started 18 years and that’s when the owner first started planting the trees in a lot that was left to him by his paretns. Rather than building apartments and making tons of money off it, he started a tradition. One that I would like to support for the next 20 years.
The address is in SW Portland, on 57th Ave off Garden Home Rd. You can’t miss the signs. The best part about it was that these weren’t huge trees, there were U-cuts and pre-cuts, they were all CHEMICAL FREE, and most importantly, the one that Laura priced at the corner near our house was $75 and a comparable and more beautiful one at this place was only $19. Plus, there are hundreds of them. You don’t need to go and say we sent you, but let us know if you go via a comment below.

Seriously, our 6 year old Connor picked out the best tree for us and it fit perfectly within our 8 foot ceilings. They wrapped it up, roped it to the car and away we went. If you want your tree buying experience to be memorable, put down the chainsaw, don’t break the bank, get the kids out of the three layers you dressed them in and enjoy this place. It’s Portland. We are weird and we like it that way.
When a Monday starts with VooDoo Doughnuts, the week has started the right way. It actually wrapped up a very up and down weekend for Todd, who was at both ends of the body spectrum, mainly the other one says Laura. In fact his Mansfield Moment centered around the joy of discovery when Laura encouraged him to do a “Clearing” around his issues. Worked like a charm.
It even opened up the house to a little Christmas Miracle when Laura discovered what may be one of the best kept secrets in Portland: a man in SW Portland who grows his own Christmas Trees that you can cut down.
This triggered Laura to start discussing what is normal during the holidays. Who did start these traditions? Why do we do things and cook things certain ways? With the Holidays approaching Todd took it upon himself to let people know why he is so admantaly against toy maker Mattel, and why the US Government is screwing the Handmade Toy makers in America. There is an even more in depth show that talks all about this, Launch Pad Radio.
Todd also teared up when he discovered that he and Laura were not a good looking couple. There is actually proof (a study) that shows why Pagatim’s IT guy, Kelly and his wife) are actually better looking than Todd and Laura.
Plus these two discussed how they and other Naturopaths have known for years that Probiotics are good for your kids. Maybe someday the AAP will wake up and catch up with everyone else.

Todd and Laura reflected on what it meant to see their kids so excited about sending leftover Halloween candy to the troops. Plus, it was a great wet weekend spent in the woods with their kids and 5 other kids. The exploring was exceptional. Finally, Laura shared her thoughts about every kid getting a trophy at the end of a sports season…Todd’s belly still hurts.
