Whether it’s every day or just over Spring Break, Parents need to stop praising their children. Yeah, No more! You must shut your mouth! Be quiet. Zip it. Stop Talking! All of that praise you have been heaping on your child is doing more harm than good. Hopefully you already know that but if you are like many who grew up with large helpings of praise from your parents, then maybe you are doing the same to your child. Do you find yourself looking for the approval of others? Do you want your kids to have to carry that burden as well? If you don’t, then stop praising them. “I’m so proud of you!” Those are words that should not fly from your lips. Don’t worry, we have other tips as well… Laura says I shouldn’t tell you to shut up.
Also, as Spring Break nears, are you ready to allow your child to fly off into the great big blue? Where are they heading? Another country? Some beach a few thousand miles away? How can you be sure they are going to be safe? Laura and I have some ideas that can make a difference right now.
